Puff Puff: A Cheerful Display Font for Crafters and Makers

The other day, I was putting together a set of candle labels for a new seasonal line and stumbled across Puff Puff in my font library. I had downloaded it months ago but hadn’t given it a real test. As soon as I typed out “Lavender Fields” in that soft, bouncy typeface, I knew I had found the perfect match. The letters felt like clouds with personality—light, rounded, and just playful enough to make my product feel whimsical without losing professionalism.

Puff Puff is a display font, which means it’s designed to catch the eye in short bursts—think titles, names, and decorative phrases rather than paragraphs. It has a handmade charm that works beautifully for crafters, Etsy sellers, and printable creators who want to add a touch of joy to their designs. Whether it’s on a boutique tag, a greeting card, or a digital download preview, this font brings a sense of warmth and approachability.

I decided to test it across several of my product lines. First up: wedding welcome boards. I mocked up a sample with “Welcome to Our Day” in Puff Puff and paired it with a clean sans serif for the rest of the text. The contrast was lovely—the softness of Puff Puff balanced the modern simplicity of the secondary font. It gave the design a personal, hand-lettered feel without looking too casual. The font has ligatures and alternate characters, so I was able to customize the look just enough to make it feel unique to my shop.

Perfect for Labels, Tags, and Packaging

One of the most practical uses I’ve found for Puff Puff is in product labeling. I sell small-batch candles and needed a font that would be legible on round sticker labels but still carry a bit of flair. At a slightly larger size, Puff Puff read clearly and added a fun, boutique-style touch. I used it for scent names like “Cozy Cabin” and “Citrus Grove,” and it gave the packaging a more curated, intentional look.

For those using cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette, Puff Puff works well when sized appropriately. It maintains its character even at smaller points, as long as you’re not going below about 12pt. For very tiny tags or sticker details, I’d recommend sticking to a simpler font, but for main labels or packaging accents, Puff Puff shines.

From Planner Pages to Seasonal Prints

I also used Puff Puff in a set of printable planner stickers for a fall collection. I created a “Weekly Goals” header in the font and paired it with a simple serif body font. The result was a design that felt both structured and cheerful—perfect for customers who want their planners to be functional and fun.

For seasonal items like holiday tags or Valentine’s Day cards, this font adds a sweet, expressive touch. I made a set of “Happy Valentine’s Day” tags using Puff Puff and printed them on kraft paper with a gold foil accent. The rounded letters gave the tags a soft, inviting look that felt handmade even though they were machine-printed.

Pairing Puff Puff with Other Fonts

Font pairing is essential when using a display font like Puff Puff. Because it’s so expressive, it works best when balanced with a more neutral typeface. I’ve had great success pairing it with Montserrat, Lato, and even a classic serif like Georgia for formal invitations.

If you’re designing a wedding invitation suite, for example, use Puff Puff for the couple’s names and a clean script or serif for the rest of the details. For boutique packaging, pair it with a minimalist sans serif for product descriptions or care instructions. This contrast helps guide the eye and ensures your design remains readable and professional.

Designing with Puff Puff: What to Watch For

Before using Puff Puff in commercial products, always double-check the licensing. Most quality display fonts come with commercial use rights, but it’s good practice to confirm, especially if you’re selling printables, SVGs, or physical merchandise.

Also, be mindful of spacing and sizing. Puff Puff has a slightly condensed structure, so it can sometimes feel crowded if you don’t adjust the tracking (letter spacing). In design software like Canva or Adobe Illustrator, I often increase the tracking by 10–20 to give the text more air to breathe.

Real-World Examples from My Shop

Here are a few ways I’ve used Puff Puff across my creative business:

Each time, the font brought a sense of warmth and character that resonated with my audience. It’s not overly trendy, which means it has staying power across seasons and product lines.

Why Puff Puff Works for Makers

As a maker, your goal is to create products that feel personal and well-crafted. Typography plays a huge role in that perception. Puff Puff helps elevate your designs by adding a touch of whimsy and intentionality. It’s the kind of font that makes your product feel like it was made just for the person holding it.

Whether you’re designing for digital downloads or physical goods, Puff Puff is a versatile display font that adapts beautifully to many creative needs. It’s easy to work with, scalable for different uses, and above all, it brings a smile to your design process—and that’s something every maker can appreciate.
